Need is greater now than ever

Tony's column sig

Although the economy seems to be improving and the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in years, the number of homeless families with children is dramatically higher than it has been in years.   Last year (2017-2018) the Volusia County School District reported 1,740 homeless school aged children.  This year (2018-2019) the number of homeless school aged children has jumped to 2,626 students.  The need for the work we do is even greater now than ever before.

Where You Can Fit in (Volunteer Opportunities)

The thrift store is once again in need of volunteers to help throughout the store.  Whether you like sorting items and clothing, helping arrange displays and items for sale, or serving as a cashier we have a spot for you.  If you can donate a couple of hours or more we need your help raise funds to help support all that we do.

Prayer List

Denise has done a wonderful job of raising funds to help support all that we do.  But we need to continue to bring in more funds to fully support our operations and to think about expansion.  As the number of homeless families with children increases the greater the need for the services we provide.  We continue to have anywhere from 30 to 50 homeless families with children on our waiting list at any given time,

Wish List

The South Street campus has several new clients with very young children.  They could really use an outdoor baby swing set for the campus.

The campuses could use coffee for the parents and juice (apple, fruit punch, etc.) for the children.  And, there is always a need for paper products especially toilet paper and paper towels.

Scripture Reminder

“for there will always be poor people in the land. That is why I am giving you this order, ‘You must open your hand to your poor and needy brother in your land.”  Dt 15:11
